No, they are just both part of the Cannabis family. Hemp and marijuana are genetically distinct and differ in both cultivation, chemical properties, and use.

Hemp is grown and cultivated for fiber and seed to produce a variety of products including foods, oils, rope, and fabrics.

Marijuana is cultivated to yield high levels of the psychoactive ingredient, Tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, concentrated heavily in the flowers and buds. Marijuana contains both THC and CBD, and these compounds have different effects.

THC creates a mind-altering “high” when it is broken down by heat and introduced into the body.

CBD has been found to have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety properties without any psychoactive effects. Thus, it has recently gained popularity as a dietary supplement and is now one of the leading applications of hemp in the US.

 A recent conversation with someone learning about the benefits of CBD demonstrated that some people may be concerned  about the statement on all our bottles: “FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA) DISCLOSURE: These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease. Always check with your physician before starting a new dietary supplement program.”

This person was extremely concerned that the  FDA did not evaluate our products .  I explained that the FDA doesn’t evaluate vitamins, like vitamin C, D, and E, as well as pro-biotics and pre-biotics, and other supplements, which many of us take regularly as part of our own personal health regimens.  Since our Hemp Extract with CBD products are considered “dietary supplements”, like vitamins, and not “drugs”, it is not within the FDA’s scope to evaluate dietary supplements.

This person was surprised to hear that his dietary supplements, which he had been taking for  years, with great success, were labelled in the same way. He could not wait to go home and check. Needless to say, he called me the next day to let me know his vitamins had the same disclosure as our hemp extract products, and he was  no longer concerned that the FDA does not do these types of evaluations . In fact, he was eager to try our hemp extract products with CBD, and encouraged me to write this post as he was certain people were under the  same mis-conception as he was.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a recently discovered group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors found throughout the body. The endocannabinoid receptors that make up the ECS are located in our Central Nervous System (CNS), Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), and Immune System. Our CNS includes our brain and spinal cord, while the PNS acts as a communication network linking our CNS to the rest of our body.

Our brains contain the heaviest concentration of cannabinoid receptors, but there’s no shortage of them in our organs, tissues, glands, and more. The saturation of ECS receptors throughout our body is part of why CBD has so many uses and is so effective.
